An antique Japanese Nikko carved chair and matching table dating to the early 20th century. A great example of Nikko style carving, blending traditional Japanese motifs with Western furniture forms. The chair is crowned with a carved serpent, a symbol of protection and wisdom, with bamboo to the back panel representing resilience. Botanical carvings flow across the seat, apron and cabriole legs. The matching table mirrors the same bold floral carving and curved leg shape. Dark stained finish with natural wear and patina throughout. The underside construction and timber movement are consistent with its age.
