A vintage mid century Chinese ceramic horse inspired by the celebrated sancai glazed horses of the Tang Dynasty. Modelled in a spirited running pose with raised foreleg, flowing mane and tail and detailed saddle, finished in the traditional sancai palette of rich amber, green and creamy white glazes. The original Tang Dynasty horses were created as elaborate tomb figures and became enduring symbols of status and prosperity, with their distinctive three-colour glazing later inspiring decorative ceramics throughout the 20th century. Good vintage condition with light crazing and minor wear to the glaze consistent with age and use.
