Handknotted Persian rug from the Hamadan region of north-west Iran, woven in the mid 20th century. This is a village-made piece, characterised by its bold geometric layout and stacked central medallions, drawn with the natural variation you expect from handwoven production. The palette is classic Hamadan: deep indigo ground with brick red, soft green and muted ivory details. Borders feature traditional tribal motifs, all rendered with a slightly irregular hand that gives the rug its honesty and charm. Wool pile on a cotton foundation. Wear is consistent with age and use, adding softness and character rather than detracting from the overall presence. A good, versatile size that works equally well in living spaces, hallways or layered under furniture.
