Vintage French Louis XV style commode with a shaped black marble top over a bombé form body, decorated with floral marquetry across the drawer fronts and sides. The commode features two shaped drawers with ornate gilt metal handles, scrolling gilt metal mounts to the front corners and decorative sabots to the feet. Raised on elegant cabriole legs, with a serpentine front and softly curved sides characteristic of the Louis XV style. The warm timber veneers are detailed with floral and foliate marquetry, creating decorative cartouches across the front and side panels. The black marble top is shaped to follow the contours of the commode and has natural veining throughout. Vintage condition with wear consistent with age and use. Some surface wear, marks and losses to the finish, together with visible veining and age related marks to the marble. Please refer to photographs. While not an exact pair, the two are very similar in scale, form and finish and work beautifully together as near pair bedside tables.
