A vintage oil painting depicting a traditional Russian church, with onion domes rising above a green hillside beneath a pale blue sky. Painted in a wonderfully naive style, with a muted palette and simplified architectural forms. The painting is signed and dated lower right, appearing to read 1946, with further Cyrillic inscription. An old label to the frame identifies the subject as “Church of St. Irene - Novgorod.” Presented in its original gilt-toned frame with a fabric-lined inner border. There is considerable age-related wear throughout, including surface marks, losses and areas of deterioration to the painted surface, along with staining, fading and wear to the frame and fabric surround. This condition is reflected in the price.
