A fabulous pair of vintage European wrought iron garden armchairs that date to the mid 20th century, with highly decorative sculptural frames and exaggerated scrolling forms. The chairs feature sweeping circular arms continuing down into dramatic looped legs, high shaped backs and elaborate scrolling ironwork. Large applied acanthus leaf motifs frame each back, giving the chairs a distinctly French decorative influence with a glamorous Hollywood Regency feel. We have had both chairs professionally reupholstered in a bold black and white striped outdoor fabric, including generously upholstered seat and back cushions and newly upholstered arm pads. The original painted wrought iron frames retain considerable character, with chipping, surface oxidation, exposed iron and weathering throughout consistent with age and outdoor use. Areas of heavier oxidation are visible to the decorative leaf work and frame as pictured. This aged finish has intentionally been retained rather than refinished. A highly decorative pair suited for anywhere at home in a garden, verandah, conservatory or interior. Sold as a pair.
