An unusual vintage Indian brass candlestand formed as a coiled cobra supporting a winged female figure, her outstretched arms holding two taper candle cups. The design draws on South Asian Naga imagery, with the cobra’s broad hood, engraved scales and winged female figure recalling representations of the Nag Kanya or female serpent divinity. The piece has been cast in sections and finished with engraved detailing throughout. A particularly unusual piece of Indian decorative brassware, with a sculptural quality from every angle and a naturally aged finish throughout. Wear, tarnishing and marks consistent with age and use.
