A late 19th century Staffordshire pottery figure of G. Bismarck depicted on horseback, the base moulded with the title “G. Bismarck” in relief. Hand painted in traditional tones of iron red, cobalt blue, black and soft pink, this example shows the classic naïve modelling associated with Victorian flatback figures. Fine, even glaze crazing throughout and natural wear to the underside consistent with age. The impressed lettering sits beneath the glaze. Equestrian political figures such as this were produced in Staffordshire, England and were popular mantel ornaments in Victorian interiors.
