A charming matched pair of Victorian Staffordshire mantle dogs, dating to around 1860–1880. Each finely modelled seated spaniel features the highly desirable original glass eyes, a detail only found on mid-19th century examples. The creamy glaze shows age-appropriate wear and subtle crazing, while traces of gilt remain on their collars and chains, adding to their authentic patina.
Made to grace Victorian parlours, these spaniels are quintessential pieces of Staffordshire pottery — at once decorative, characterful, and steeped in history. Their flat backs confirm their purpose as mantelpiece dogs, designed to sit proudly on either side of a hearth.
