A pair of vintage Chinese ceramic guardian lions, commonly known as Foo Dogs, finished in a beautiful turquoise green glaze with blue and warm ochre detailing. Modelled as a complementary pair with expressive faces, curled manes, upright tails and traditional stylised detailing. The colouring and glaze are characteristic of mid century Chinese and Asian export ceramics, likely dating to the mid to late 20th century. Traditionally displayed in pairs, guardian lions have a long history in Chinese decorative arts as symbols of protection, prosperity and balance. Good vintage condition with crazing, minor glaze imperfections and general wear consistent with age and use. Sold as a pair.
