A stunning pair of French Louis XVI Revival fauteuils with carved gilt frames, oval backs and fluted legs. The frames are decorated with acanthus carving, beaded borders and laurel detailing, reflecting the elegant neoclassical style popular in France during the late 18th century and revived throughout the 20th century. The chairs retain their original green upholstery, which complements the aged gilt finish beautifully. They are comfortable, sturdy and equally suited to a sitting room, bedroom or either side of a console or fireplace. The frames have wear to the gilt finish, revealing the red undercoat in places, along with minor marks and imperfections consistent with age and use. The upholstery remains in good vintage condition with light wear.
