A decorative pair of Chinese guardian lions, dating to the mid 20th century, finished in a vibrant turquoise glaze with finely modelled detailing throughout. Often referred to as temple or Foo dogs, these stylised lions have long been used as symbolic protectors and here read as playful yet sculptural decorative objects.
The pair presents beautifully, with strong colour and crisp surface detail. There is evidence of a professional repair to the head of the left-facing figure, visible on close inspection and reflected in the pricing. Otherwise in very good vintage condition, with light surface wear consistent with age. Sold as a pair.
