A beautiful large 19th century overmantel mirror in the French Rococo Revival style, featuring an elaborate gilt frame adorned with scrolling acanthus leaves, decorative flourishes and an ornate central crest. Believed to date from the mid to late 1800s, the mirror features a sweeping, shaped top with pierced detailing, deeply carved foliate decoration and large scrolling embellishments extending down the lower corners. The traditional timber panelled backing is another lovely feature of its period construction. The richly aged gilt finish and foxed mirror glass give this impressive piece a wonderful sense of history, reminiscent of the elaborate mirrors found in grand European interiors. Beautiful displayed above a fireplace, console table or sideboard. The mirror displays considerable wear consistent with age and use, including gilt loss, chips, surface marks and foxing to the glass. A section of the upper central crest is also missing, with all imperfections reflected in the price.
