A beautiful Italian micro-mosaic crucifix dating to the late 19th to early 20th century, finely handcrafted with hundreds of individually cut glass tesserae set within an ornate brass frame. Rich shades of cobalt blue, turquoise, emerald green, blush pink and white combine to create intricate floral and foliate motifs, showcasing the remarkable precision of traditional Roman micro-mosaic craftsmanship. Produced as treasured devotional objects and elegant Grand Tour souvenirs for travellers visiting Rome and the Vatican, pieces such as this remain highly sought after for their artistry and historical significance. Every tiny fragment of coloured glass was painstakingly cut and placed by hand, making each example unique. The crucifix displays beautifully and retains its original brass hanging loop. There are a handful of small losses to the mosaic tesserae, consistent with age, however these do little to detract from its overall charm.
