Charming antique Victorian silhouette portrait depicting a gentleman in profile, hand-cut and mounted on paper in the traditional manner. Presented in a later black-painted frame with brass hanging loop, retaining its original period character. Silhouette portraits were a popular and affordable form of portraiture throughout the late 18th and 19th centuries, capturing the likeness of the sitter in a simple yet highly recognisable profile. The reverse retains an old handwritten inscription, adding to the piece’s history and provenance. Some age-related wear, foxing and losses to the backing paper are present, along with minor marks and wear to the frame, all consistent with age and use. A lovely addition to a gallery wall, cabinet of curiosities or traditional interior.
