A decorative late 19th century English bedroom chair dating to the Aesthetic Movement, with an ebonised timber frame and gilt floral mounts throughout. The unusual open back features turned uprights and a circular upholstered panel, above a generously buttoned round seat in mustard velvet, finished with braided trim and fringe. The combination of ebonised timber, gilt decoration and stylised floral motifs is characteristic of the Aesthetic Movement of the late Victorian period. There is wear and rubbing to the ebonised finish consistent with age and use, particularly around the back and legs. The upholstery is in good usable condition with some age-related wear. Circa 1880–1890.
