An unusual pair of antique Chinese lotus shoes, traditionally worn by women whose feet had undergone the practice of foot binding. Exceptionally small in size, each shoe measures just 14 cm long and is constructed with a pointed, upturned toe, shaped heel and richly coloured silk uppers. The vibrant pink red fabric is decorated with delicate floral embroidery in pale blue and white, contrasting with deep blue panels, decorative stitching and traditional cloth covered soles. Antique condition with wear consistent with age and use, including fading, staining, fraying and deterioration to the silk fabric, particularly around the heels and openings. Sold as a pair.
