An unusual pair of antique Art Nouveau cast pewter candlestands, each featuring a finely modelled eagle with wings outstretched, perched upon a naturalistic rocky base. Dating stylistically to the late 19th or early 20th century, the design reflects the period's fascination with the natural world, combining sculptural representations of birds and foliage with decorative metalwork. Both candlestands bear impressed manufacturer's initials JD, decorative hallmarks and the pattern number P1724 to the underside. The maker remains unidentified. Finished in a silver grey pewter with an aged patina, the pair would make an interesting addition to a mantelpiece, dining table or collection of antique decorative metalwork. Antique condition with wear consistent with age and use, including surface rubbing and patination. The upper candleholder sections appear incomplete, with irregularities around the openings.
