An elegant antique Louis XVI style boudoir chair featuring a decorative lyre shaped backrest, carved timber frame and a painted ivory finish with gilt detailing. The distinctive openwork back is designed in the form of a classical lyre, an ornamental motif associated with French Neoclassical furniture of the late 18th century. Fluted, tapering legs, carved rosettes, beaded borders and turned finials further reflect the restrained elegance of the Louis XVI style. Finished in softly aged ivory with gilt highlights, the chair retains a woven cane seat and a generously padded, loose blue velvet cushion with coordinating tassel ties. A decorative example of French Neoclassical design, well suited to a bedroom, dressing room or occasional seating arrangement. Antique condition with wear consistent with age and use, including losses and rubbing to the painted and gilt finish. The original cane seat shows considerable wear and areas of damage, while the blue velvet cushion has visible staining, fading and wear. These imperfections have been reflected in the price.
