An antique American lithographed toleware tray by The Meek Company of Coshocton, Ohio, dating to around 1907. The oval tray features the company’s romanticised female portrait known as “Carmen”, richly coloured against a deep crimson ground and framed by a black border with fine gilt detailing. The portrait is beautifully evocative of the period, with her elaborate coiffure, jewelled headpiece and floral dress typical of turn of the century decorative imagery. Wear, scratches, marks and losses to the lithographed and painted surfaces consistent with age and use, as pictured.
