A late Victorian overmantel mirror in the Aesthetic Movement style, finished in ebonised timber with gilt incised decoration throughout. The frame is built with a central mirror plate, flanked by narrow mirrors and small display shelves, topped with a turned spindle gallery. Decorative panels featuring bird and floral motifs sit within the base. A decorative piece from the period where English interiors leaned into Japanese influence and graphic ornament. Wear consistent with age, including losses and rubbing to the ebonised finish, marks to shelves and age-related movement to the timber backing as shown. The mirror plate shows light age-related crazing and soft foxing. Original lined shelves with lifting, rippling and wear consistent with age (refer photos). Surmount indicates the original inclusion of two additional finials (now missing), though the symmetry of the design is not impacted by their loss. Condition and wear reflected in price.
