Decorative antique French candlestand, dating to the late 19th century, with an ornate cassolette form body raised on a stepped white marble base. The cast metal body is worked in the Louis XVI Revival taste, with a classical urn form, scrolling handles, fluted and foliate detailing and a pierced circular gallery decorated with repeating floral and leaf motifs. The metal has developed a dark aged patina with areas of verdigris throughout. The substantial marble base is secured from beneath with an old central threaded fixing and square nut, consistent with traditional period construction. Designed to hold a single taper candle. Wear consistent with age and use, including oxidation, verdigris, surface wear and marks to the metal, together with minor wear and small edge nibbles to the marble as pictured.
