An impressive late 19th century European brass fireplace fender with integral firedogs, richly decorated in the Renaissance Revival taste. The substantial pair of firedogs feature large urn finials with lion mask and ring handles, above elaborate female masks, scrolling foliage and further animal mask decoration. Joined by an ornate sliding centre fender with repeating rosette detail, allowing the overall width to be adjusted to suit the fireplace. A beautifully decorative piece of antique fire furniture with wonderful scale and detail. Wear, tarnishing, marks and patina throughout consistent with age and use. Circa 1880–1900.
