A superb 19th-century Korean wedding chest featuring intricate brass butterfly fittings symbolising happiness and marital harmony. The chest is crafted from richly grained elmwood with exceptional joinery and warm patina developed over nearly two centuries.
Both the upper and lower cases have central doors opening to spacious storage compartments, while the piece rests on a finely carved base. The brushed brass butterfly hardware - each uniquely shaped - provides both decoration and symbolic meaning, representing love and good fortune.
The chest remains in beautiful antique condition, retaining its original locks, with minor age-related wear adding to its authenticity. See photos for more. Separates into two chests and a base.
