An early 20th century Japanese painted screen panel depicting an ox-drawn gosho guruma, the ceremonial carriage of the imperial court. Rendered in soft mineral pigments on paper, with a lacquered black frame and stand, and decorative detailing to the reverse. This piece dates to the late Meiji to Taisho period, circa 1900–1920. During this time, traditional court imagery was commonly adapted for domestic interiors rather than formal folding byobu screens. The single panel format and footed stand reflect this shift. Shows genuine age throughout, including surface wear, foxing, tonal variation, and areas of water marking consistent with age and materials - there elements are part of the piece’s history and character which are reflected in the price.
