A beautiful antique European chest of drawers, believed to date from the 19th century, featuring an oversized serpentine form, two generous drawers and elegantly shaped cabriole legs. Made from solid timber using traditional cabinetmaking techniques, the chest retains its original plank backed construction and drawer bottoms formed from individual timber boards running from front to back, details associated with early European furniture making. Finished in an aged cream paint with gilt detailing along the serpentine top, drawer fronts and decorative mouldings. Ornate metal handles and escutcheons complement its French Louis XV inspired design, while the drawers retain their dark timber interiors. A particularly charming old piece, displaying considerable wear consistent with age and use, including cracking, surface marks, chips and areas of paint and gilt loss. The timber construction and beautifully aged finish reflect its long history.
