A large and impressive late 19th century overmantel mirror in the French Louis XVI style, with a giltwood and composition frame. The shaped frame is crowned with an elaborate ribbon bow and trailing foliate crest, with classical egg and dart ornament and a finely detailed beaded inner border. Dating to circa 1870-1890, the mirror retains its substantial traditional timber boarded backing and is exceptionally heavy. Good antique condition with wear, marks, minor losses and ageing to the gilt finish consistent with age and use. Age related marks and foxing to the mirror plate.
