A beautiful pair of original handpainted decorative cherubs, created by an Australian artist on vintage board, with each figure individually cut to shape. Inspired by the winged cherubs and celestial figures found in European Renaissance and Baroque religious art we had the cherubs depicted in flight, blowing golden trumpets with their feathered wings outstretched and rich blue drapery flowing behind them. Reminiscent of the painted cherubs found in old European churches, particularly those decorating elaborate altarpieces and chapel interiors, the pair also recalls traditional Victorian Christmas imagery. The sweet faces, muted colours and painterly finish give them the appearance of old ecclesiastical decorations. Designed to be displayed together, they would look beautiful mounted above a doorway, fireplace or as part of a traditional Christmas display. Handpainted on vintage board, with minor irregularities and wear consistent with the materials used. Sold as a pair. Also available in a separate listing is a matching pair of hand painted cherubs playing lute style stringed instruments, created in the same style and designed to complement these trumpet playing cherubs.
