Beautiful pair of antique French salon chairs, likely late 19th to early 20th century, with beautifully carved timber frames showing classic French proportions, cabriole legs and delicate detailing. The chairs have been reupholstered at a later date in what appears to be a silk velvet or velvet blend, finished in a rich chartreuse tone. The fabric feels relatively recent rather than antique indicating that the frames have been re-upholstered at some stage. Originally intended as salon or occasional chairs, these pieces were designed for intimate seating and visual impact rather than formal dining. Condition consistent with age. Frames show age and patina, minor marks to fabric (including small ink mark to back rest). Sold as a pair.
